Adam was born on Tuesday, 10 August 1548 in London, County Middlesex, England. He was the son of Adam Winthrop II and Agnes Sharpe. He was a graduate of Magdalene College. He was a lawyer, a County Magistrate & auditor of Saint John`s College and Trinity. Adam married Alice Still on 16 December 1574 in England. Adam's wife, Alice, died on 24 December 1577 in Groton, County Suffolk, England, leaving him a widower. Adam married 2nd Anne Browne, daughter of Henry Browne and Agnes (?), on 20 February 1579 in England. Anne was of Edwardstone.3 By 1580, Anne's father had left his home in Edwardstone. Adam & Anne then moved into his house.4 Adam departed this life on Tuesday, 28 March 1623 in Groton Manor, County Suffolk, England. He was buried in Groton, County Suffolk, England, in the Groton Chancel.

Lincoln, and a sister of Dr. John Still, Bishop of Bath and Wells. She d. 24 Dec., 1577, and he married secondly, Anne, daughter of Henry Browne of Edwardston, clothier. Their children were: I. The diary of this Adam Winthrop notes numerous relatives; some of these evidently belong to his wife's family. Her sister Joane Browne married William Hilles of Holton, who died 4 Aug., 1597, and had children William, who m. Elizabeth Gibson, 15 Jan., 1600, Elizabeth, and Joan who m.
