     Mary was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She has also been referred to as Mercy. She was christened there on 9 April 1648.3 Mary married William Symmes, son of Reverend Zachariah Symmes and Sarah Baker, circa 1675. Mary's husband, William, died on 22 September 1691 in Charlestown leaving her a widow. Mary married 2nd Reverand Samuel Torrey, son of William Torrey and Jane Haviland, on 30 July 1695 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.4 Mary's husband, Samuel, died on 21 April 1707 in Weymouth leaving her a widow.5 Mary made her will on 26 June 1720.

Mrs. Mary Torrey, bequeaths various articles of household furniture to her eldest son, William Symmes, of Charleston; to her son Timothy Symmes, of Scituate; to her daughter Elizabeth Torrey, a ticking bed and feathers, lying in the best chamber. Her son Nathaniel Symmes she makes her executor and residuary legatee.

Mary departed this life on Wednesday, 12 March 1720/21 in Weymouth.
