Chiliab Smith
M, b. 1635, d. 7 March 1731
Chiliab was born in 1635 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Lieutenant Samuel Smith and Elizabeth Smythe. Chiliab married Hannah Hitchcock on 2 October 1661 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.1 Chiliab & Hannah had children: Hannah [7/07/1662][m. 3/23/1681 John Montague], Samuel [3/09/1665-8/04/1724][m. 3/09/1687 Sarah Bliss], Luke [4/16/1666-ca 1748][m. 4/09/1690 Mary Crow], Ebenezer [7/11/1668-ca 1716][m. 10/__/1691 Abagail Broughton], Nathaniel [1/02/1670-infant], John [10/08/1671-ca 1750][m. 1691 Martha [Mary] Golding], son [1673-1673], Hester [3/31/1674][m. 10/20/1696 Nathaniel Ingram], daughter [3/__/1677-3/__/1677], Elizabeth [2/02/1679][m. 10/26/1698 James Smith, son of Samuel & grandson Rev. Henry Smith], Mary [8/16/1681-after 1746][m. 12/15/1697 Preserved Smith & 2nd 4/22/1721 Peter Montague], Chiliab Jr. [8/__/1682-8/__/1682], Chiliab [2/18/1685-11/08/1746][m. 12/19/1710 Mercy Golding] & Sarah [4/26/1688-10/05/1760][m. 4/13/1710 Jonathan Morton].2 Chiliab followed in his father's and brother's footsteps in holding offices in the town of Hadley. He apparently was an influenctial force in the community and properous as well. Unfortunately little is recorded of him other than the offices he held and on the tax roles.1 Chiliab departed this life on Wednesday, 7 March 1731 in Hadley at age 96 years.
