Philemon Ray

M, b. before 9 December 1612, d. before 10 October 1679
     Philemon was born in Cowling, County Suffolk, England. He was christened there on 9 December 1612 in St Margaret of Antioch.1 He was the son of Simon Ray I and Sarah Pilgrim. Philemon married Elizabeth Smith in 1638 in Clare.1,2 Philemon made his will on 18 March 1679 at Cowling.

The Will of Philemon Ray of Clare in the County of Suffolk, yeoman, 18 September1679. To Wife Elizabeth for life a parcel of land called Lankford March [and household goods]. To son Simon Ray the land at Wickhambrook, and if the land b taken away from son Simon the sons Samuel and Daniell to pay him £10 apiece. To grandchildren, son Simon’s two children, 20s. apiece to b paid two years after my wife’s decease. To son Daniell Ray and his heirsmy land that lieth in Cowlidge with the house or houses thereunto belonging. To Son Samuel Ray all my stocks within doors and without, and my lands called Lankford March after my wife’s decease, he to be executor. - - - Signed – the mark of Philemon Ray. Witnesses: Will Chattin, the mark of Mary Frech, Widow and Will Emsden.3

Philemon departed this life in Cowling. His will was probated on 10 October 1679.
