Gershom Lockwood1

Gershom was born on Sunday, 6 September 1643 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Robert Lockwood and Susannah Norman. He was first married to a women whose name is unknown. Gershom and his wife had children: Gershom [1663], Joseph [1665-1749] [m. 1700 Sarah Green], Elizabeth [1666] [m. John Bates], Hannah [12/23/1667-12/28/1745] [m. 1686 John Burwell & 2nd.1692 Thomas Hanford], Abraham [1]669-6/__/1747] [m. Sarah Westcott] & Sarah [1669] [m. 1719 Benjamin Hickock]. Gershom married Elizabeth Dickerson on 3 August 1697 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was one of the twenty-seven propietors of Greenwich, Connecticut, where he was the leading carpenter and builder and held many positions of trust. Gershom departed this life on Sunday, 12 March 1719 in Greenwich at age 75 years, 6 months and 6 days.2 He was buried there in Tomac Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here Lyes ye Body of Mr. Gersham Lockwood Aged 77 years deceased March 12 1719.3 The inventory of Gershom's estate was taken on Friday, 24 March 1719 by Thomas Marshall and Timothy Knapp. His will was probated on 1 April 1719. The Court appointed the widow, Elizabeth, and his son, Gershom as administors of the estate.
