Thomas Launders

Thomas was born in 1613. He was son of Thomas Launders of Sandwich. His surname is also spelled Landers. On 1 July 1635, Thomas left London aboard the ship, "Abigail", mastered by Robert Hackwell bound for New England. Listed among the passengers was Thomas Launders, age 22. He first settled at Lynn, and removed to Sandwich in 1639 where he took the Oath of Fidelity. Thomas married Jane Kirby, daughter of Richard Kirby [Curby] and Jane (?), on 2 July 1651 in Sandwich, Cape Cod, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.1 On 2 March 1652, Thomas was summoned to court for having a chid born within 30 weeks of marriage. No punishment recorded at this date.2 Thomas and Jane had children: Mercy [1/23/1652-3/07/1654], John [1/02/1654-4/15/1737] [m. 1686 Rachel Freeman], Sarah [1658], Thomas [ca. 1661] [m. Mary Freeman], Tabitha [ca. 1663] [Reuben Waite], Richard [ca. 1670] [m. Saraha Freeman], Joseph [1672] [m. Rebecca] & Hasadiah [1/31/1675] [m. 5/28/1719 Benoni Ewen].3 Thomas departed this life on Monday, 11 November 1675 in Sandwich, Cape Cod, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.4 The inventory of Thomas's estate was taken on Sunday, 15 December 1675 by Edmond Freeman, George Allen and John Newland. The estate was appraaised at £52 5s.5
