Edmund Grymwade
M, b. 1544, d. before 5 March 1583
Edmund was born in 1544 in Whatfield, County Suffolk, England.1 He was the son of William Grymwade and Ann Freman. Edmund married Rose Lumpkin on 16 October 1569 in Rattlesden, County Suffolk, England, at St. Nicolas Church.1 Edmund made his will on 28 February 1583 at Whatfield.
I Edmund Grymwade, husbandman of Whatfield . . . to the pore people of Whatfielde and Naughton . . . xxjs. Viiijd. . . . to Joanne Gosling and Lawrence Seaman . . . each vjs. viiijd. [cousins on his mother’s side] . . . all . . . my moveable goodes Excepte my Lease of the mannor of Whatfield Hall and the terme of yere conteyned in the same to Rosse my wife to lyve and bringe upe my Children . . . to everie of my Children And to the Childe also which my wife ys with nowe . . . twentie pounds . . . to b paide to . . . [daughters at age 21 and sons at age 24] . . . all other Legacies whiche I owe by reason of my beinge executor bothe to my father and mother I will my saide executors shall paie as they shall growe dewe And for the indemnification of my saide Executors I will they shall have in ther custodie my said Lease . . . of the mannor of Whatfield Hall aforesaid and the occupation profits and commodities of all . . . the howes lands meadowes feadings and pastures . . . for . . . sixtenne yeres . . . Discharginge of this my will and Testamente And those sixetenne yeres beinge expired I gyve my said Lease to my oldeste sonne Willaim and to his heirs for ever so as he shall not sell the same before he shall accomplishe his full age of fower and twentie yeres . . . my said sonne William shall . . . gyve . . . to his brother John Grymwade my sonne twentie pounds more within two years nexte after his entrie into the said faerme . . . my saide Executors shall . . . [if expedient] Lett the saide faerme to my said wiffe for A reasonable rente dewringe all the said terme from yere to yere . . . to be . . . myne Executors . . . I constitute and appounte my brother William Grymwade And my brother in Law William More.1
Edmund departed this life in Rattlesden. He was buried there in the churchyard of St. Nicolas on Saturday, 5 March 1583.1 His will was probated on 15 April 1583.
