Thomas Burrows

     Thomas was born on Tuesday, 2 September 1788 in New York City, New York County, New York. He was born in his home on Pearl Street. He was the son of Thomas Burrows and Anne Whitney. Thomas married Harriet Westlake on 12 March 1812 in Warwick, Orange County, New York. The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Elmira Township, Tioga County, New York, the family of Thomas Burrows [2001:2001].² Thomas and Harriet had 2 sons and 3 daughters and one other child. Thomas's wife, Harriet, died on 24 April 1823 in Horseheads, Tioga County, New York, leaving him a widower. Thomas married Eliza Westlake on 17 March 1824 in Horseheads, Tioga County, New York. Thomas and Eliza had children: Benjamin [10/20/1824-10/13/1903] [m. 1846 Elizabeth Douglas & 2nd 1872 Augusta Farnsworth], George [10/13/1826-6/22/1860] [m. 1848 Sarah Elizabeth Dean] one daughter. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Elmira Township, Tioga County, New York, the family of Thomas Burrows [1111001:01201].³ Thomas's wife, Eliza, died on 26 March 1830 in Horseheads leaving him a widower. Thomas married Hannah Crandall on 16 August 1830 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Thomas and Hannah had children: Josiah [7/21/1836-8/27/1918] [m. Amanda Nute & Julia] and 2 daughters. The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Elmira Township, Chemung County, New York, the family of Thomas Burrows [10111001:020121].⁴ Thomas departed this life on Saturday, 5 March 1842 in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York, at age 53 years, 6 months and 3 days. He was buried there in Westlake Family Cemetery.⁵
