Henry Waklee
M, b. 1620, d. before 8 November 1690
Henry was born in 1620 in Connecticut.1 He was the son of James Waklee. Henry married Sarah Burt, daughter of Henry Burt and Eulalia March, the 4th day of the 7th month 1649 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.2,1 The family resided at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Henry was the first lawyer of record in the colony of Connecticut.3 He was granted administrator of Sarah's first husband's estate, Judah Gregory, on 15 May 1650. Henry made his will on 11 July 1689 at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.
I Henry Wakelee of Stratford being weak of body but in my right mind do make this my Last will and testament that is to say I bequeath my precious soule unto ye hand s of my Good Redeemer: who is able to keep it which is committed to him against that day: my body to be decently buried at ye discretion of my sons and my relations. Item – As to those worldly goods not yet disposed of by deeds of Gift my will is that Deliverance and James shall have hould and enjoy all ye housing and land in the homelot to be divided between them at their own discretion. - - - Item – I give to Deliverance and James my oxen and whatsoever benefits are about ye house for husbandry I Say to be Equally divided between them with all other ye tools that are about the house - - - Item – It is my will ye my dear wife _______of this year shall have a third part of the corn that is raised upon my land. - - - Item It is my will that Deliverance and James shall pay to their mother tree pounds per year in _____with firewood and provide her a cow for her use and they to do so long as their mother shall live - - - Item – She having use of my dwelling house during ye time of her life and my two daughters Patience and Abigail if they so cause to live with their mother during ye time that they are single - - - Item – I give to Patience and Abigail each of them a cow as also I give them all my household goods after my dear wife’s decease - - - Item – I give to my son Jacob four sheep - - - Item - I give to Thomas Lattin five sheep - - - Item - I give Elizabeth Squire a cow or ye worth of a cow - - - Item – I give to my daughter Mary ____ a cow or the worth of a cow: four sheep a goat to Deliverance and James - - - Item – I give Henry Sumers who lives with me besides what I have given; a cow or the worth of it - - - Item – I give my Great Bible after her mothers death to Patience It is my will that ye table & ye cupboard should not be listed among my movable goods but to remain still in the house - - - Item- I do Except an iron pot which I have given to James from among my household goods - - - Witnesses: Zachariah Fairchild Samuel Preston.2
He wrote a codicil to his will on 5 April 1690. Henry departed this life in Stratford. His will was probated on 8 November 1690.
