Amzi Stedman

Amzi was born on Tuesday, 14 January 1783 in Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of John Stedman I and Mary Frances Hotchkiss. Amzi married Anne Canfield circa 1804 in Tioga County, New York. Amzi & Anne had children: John H. [5/06/1805-11/06/1825], Henry H. [1808-6/05/1813], Josiah [3/07/1809-4/29/1894] [m. [1823-1902], Nancy [11/__1824-5/08/1827], Amzi [1827- 6/12/1829], Amzi [1829-1882]. He was a blacksmith. The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Berkshire, Broome County, New York, the family of Amaze [4001:0001].1 The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Owego, Broome County, New York, the family of Amzi Stedman [2201:2101].2 The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Owego, Tioga County, New York, the family of Amzi Stedman [2011101:0020001].3 The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Owego, Tioga County, New York, the family of Amzi Stedman [00111001:00013001].4 29 August 1850, Amzi and his wife, Anne, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Owego, Tioga County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Amzi [67 Connecticut], Anna [63 New York], Lymon [27 New York], Polly [24 New York], Wheeler [2 New York], Amzi [20 New York]. The men are all farmers. The farm was valued at $4000 and personal estate was valued at $2000.5 Amzi departed this life on Tuesday, 21 February 1854 in Flemingville, Tioga County, New York, at age 71 years, 1 month and 7 days. He was buried at Weltonville in Weltonville Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reds: Amzi Stedman Died Feb. 21, 1854 - AE 71 yr 1m &7 d.6
