Abijah Savage

     Abijah was born on Thursday, 2 July 1744 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He was the son of Joseph Savage & Prudence Sage. Abijah married Martha Torrey, daughter of Samuel Torrey and Martha Strickland, on 20 August 1765. Abijah & Martha had children: Molly [6/30/1765][m. Samuel Riley], Chloe [2/26/1769][m. William Hulbert], Martha [10/14/1770][m. Nathaniel Bassett], Naomi [5/17/1772][m. Timothy Bigelow], Esther [6/26/1774][m. William Stow], Abijah [11/02/1777], Grace [10/31/1779][m. William White], Caleb [7/07/1781] & Fanny [11/__/1784][m. John Church].¹ Abijah departed this life on Friday, 10 June 1825 in Cromwell, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He was buried there in the Old Burying Ground. The inscription on his stone reads: In Memory of Capt. Abijah Savage who died June 10, 1825 aged 80.
