Ezra Baldwin1

M, b. 1 September 1706, d. 26 March 1782
     Ezra was born on Wednesday, 1 September 1706 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut.2 He was the son of Jonathan Baldwin and Thankful Strong. On 3 December 1706, he was christened in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut, at the Milford Church.3 Ezra married Ruth Curtis, daughter of James Curtis and Hannah Coe, on 2 December 1728 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut.4 He and Ezra were blessed with 11 children.5 Ezra was a Deacon in Durham as well as a farmer & blacksmith. In October 1730, he was one of the original subscribers of the Book Company of Durlfam, supposed by Prof. Fowler to be the first town library in the Colony. He built his own house, even making the nails himself.6,7 Ezra's wife, Ruth, died on 2 November 1772 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. Ezra departed this life on Tuesday, 26 March 1782 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. His tomstone is inscribed "leaving with much usefulness in life, faithfully served his own generation according to the will of God, fell asleep March 26, 1782 in the 76th year of his life."8
