Thankful was born in Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. She was christened there on 9 October 1709. Thankful married Nathaniel Nickerson, son of Ensign William Nickerson IV and Deliverance Lombard, circa 1738 in Chatham. Nathaniel and Thankful had children: Bangs [9/07/1739-1796], Mary [4/29/1742] [m. 10/14/1792 Nathaniel Gould], Thankful [8/26/1745] [m. 1/16/1768 Joseph Smith], Nathaniel [3/06/1747] [m. 1/31/1771 Hannah Burgess], Jonathan [5/26/1750] [m. 11/03/1772 Sarah Godrey] & Elisha [1752-1/25/1766]. All of the children were born in Chatham. The birth were recorded by the town clerk James Covell by the mother 15 May 1751. Thankful's husband, Nathaniel, died on 4 February 1766 in Chatham leaving her a widow. Thankful departed this life after 11 June 1788 in Chatham. An agreement was reached on this date that the Widow Harding was to keep the widow Thankful Hardy for one year.
