Amy Locke

     Amy was born on Tuesday, 4 April 1797 in New York. Amy was first married to Walter Turner. Amy married Thomas Carpenter, son of Lewis Carpenter and Elizabeth Townsend, circa 1834 in Chemung County, New York. Thomas & Amy had children: Sarah [1825], John L. [1837], Catherine F. [1839][m. Thomas Miller] & Thomas J. Jr. [1841]. 4 September 1850, Amy and her husband, Thomas, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Veteran, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Thomas Carpenter [70 New York], his wife: Amy [53 New York], children: Sarah [15 New York], John [13 New York], Catherine [11 New York], Thomas Jr. [9 New York], & Mary [47 New York].¹ Amy departed this life on Monday, 6 February 1860 in Horseheads at age 62 years, 10 months and 2 days. She was buried at Breesport in Breesport Baptist Church Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Amy wife of Thomas S. Carpenter Died Feb. 6, 1860 - Aged 62 years 10 months 2 days.²
