William Haight Leggett1

     William Haight Leggett was born on Saturday, 15 January 1870 at the family home at 566 Third Ave., Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, 9:00 am. He often was called Willie.2 He was the son of William Haight Leggett and Anna Beardslee. William died on Friday, 22 March 1878 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, of dropsy. According to his sister Lucile, a few years after his death, his mother had his body resumed. It is said that his body was covered with a thin vail of moss. The family bible listed it as 24 February 1879 but was written in by a different hand at a later time.3 William was buried at the Sashabaw Cemetery in the Sashabaw Plains, Independence Township, Oakland County, Michigan, beside his brother Valentine & near his grandparents. The grave marker is a small square stone marked "Willie L." with no other information.
