Martha Leggett

     Martha was born on Monday, 10 October 1746 in West Farms, Westchester County, New York. She was the daughter of Thomas Leggett and Mary Embree. Martha married James Pierce in 1767 in Mount Pleasant, Westchester County, New York. James and Martha had children: Elizabeth [1768-9/25/1846] [m. 10/17/1793 Jesse Cox], Thomas [10/30/1844] [m. Martha Pierce & 2nd Phebe Weeks], Martha [ca. 1773], Mary [1778-7/12/1835], Sarah [1778-11/12/1841] [m. Isaac Pierce], Isaac [12/14/1780-6/07/1860] [Sarah Weeks], Anna [3/07/1783] [m. 1/19/1826 Elijah Washburn], Joseph 5/12/1785-12/03/1858] m. 10/14/1812 Hannah Sutton], Abigail [1788-4/10/1847] & Melissa [8/08/1791-7/31/1828] [m. Arron Sutton]. Martha's husband, James, died on 15 March 1831 in New Castle, Philllipse Manor leaving her a widow. Martha departed this life on Monday, 16 June 1834 in New Castle [part of Phillipse Manor] at age 87 years, 8 months and 6 days. She was buried at Westchester County in the Chappaqua Friends Burying Ground.
