Elizabeth Hopkins1
F
Elizabeth was born in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Thomas Hopkins. Elizabeth was previously married and had two children of that marriage, Anne, who married her step brother, Thomas Kirby, and Icabod. Elizabeth married 2nd Richard Kirby [Curby] circa 1670 in Queens County, Long Island, New York. Elizabeth's husband, Richard, died before 10 January 1689 in Little Worth, Oyster Bay Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York, leaving her a widow.
Additional Notes:
Regarding the identity of Elizabeth, third wife of Richard Kirby. . . In a letter written by William Hopkins in regards to the estate of his father, Thomas, he refers to his sister, wife of Richard Kirby: :To our sister Elizabeth Kirby, wife of Richard Kirby, 10s., and to each of her children by him, 5s." William mentions leaving inheritence to her two children, Anne and Icabod ofca previous marriage as well as to the children of Richard Kirby. It is also been noted that Elizabeth first husband was Joseph Hopkins, son of Thomas, who died before 1670. If this were the case, Elizabeht would be a sister-in-law of William and Thomas. In conclusion, if Elizabeth was their sister-in-law, it is doubtful that they would be leaving anything to the children of Richard Kirby. It is not known who was her first husband. Neither the brothers letter nor Richard Kirby's will mentions the surname of Ichabod and Anne.
