     Lt. Edmund was born in 1739 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Captain Richard Howell and Elizabeth Tuthill. Edmund listed as the oldest son in his father's will.

Lt. married Rachael Tuthill on 29 October 1760 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.2 Lt.'s wife, Rachael, died on 23 November 1774 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, leaving him a widower.3 Lt. married 2nd Bethia Downs on 27 February 1775 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Lt.'s wife, Bethia, died in August 1779 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, leaving him a widower. Lt. married 3rd Phebe (?) after August 1779 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Lt. departed this life after 1790 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
