Joshua Holcomb

Joshua was born on Friday, 7 September 1640 in Poquonock, Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut.1 He was the son of Thomas Holcomb and Eliabeth (?) He was christened there on 27 September 1640 in the first Parish Church.2 Joshua married Ruth Sherwood on 4 June 1663 in Windsor at the First Parish Church. Presided over by Mr Wolcot.2 Joshua & Ruth had children: Ruth [5/26/1664-1/09/1709] [m. Richard Porter], Thomas [3/30/1666-3/05/1731] [m. 1/01/1690 Elizabeth Terry & 2nd 12/05/1700 Rebecca Pettibone], Sarah [6/23/1668-1/23/1763] [m. 1690 Isaac Owens & 2nd John Case], Elizabeth [4/04/167-02/26/1762] [m. William Case 2nd 3/10/1703 John Slater & 3rd Samuel Marshall], Joshua [9/18/1672-2/10/1727] [m. 10/21/1694 Mary Carrington & 2nd 1709 Mary Hoskins], Deborah [2/10/1674-5/16/1765] [m. Daniel Porter], Mary [1676-7/14/1745] [m. 2/26/1702 John Barber & 2nd 10/16/1713 Ephriam Buell], Mindwell [1678] [m. 9/26/1721 Theophilus Cook], Hannah [1683-3/11/1741] [m. 11/29/1711 Samuel Buell], Joab [1684 -12/05/1723] & Moses [7/04/1686-12/09/1699].3,4 Joshua departed this life on Friday, 1 December 1690 in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut, at age 50 years, 2 months and 24 days. He died intestate.5 He was buried there in Granby Cemetery.6 By John Higley & Samuel Wilcox [selectmen] and his brothers, Benajah & Nathaniel Holcolm. They appraised the estate to be valued at was valued at £474 8s. Legatees of the estate: Ruth Holcomb [relict], children of the deceased: Ruth, 26 years, Thomas 24 years, Sarah 22 years, Elizabeth 20 years, Joshua 18 years, Deborah 16 years, Mary 14 years, Mindwell 12 years, Hannah 10 years & Moses 4 years.5 Letters of Administration of his estate were granted on 5 March 1691 Administratrion of the estate was granted to the widow, Ruth Holcomb with John Higley and Benajah Holcomb as overseers.. His will was probated on 7 September 1693. The court ordered the distribution of the estate, to be done by John Higley, George Griswold and Benajah Holcomb. The amounts distributed: To the widow, £35 13s.4d. & Thirds. To the Eldest son £73 4s.4d. To the second son, Joshua £53. To each of the others, £34 10s.
