Hester Holcomb

Hester was born in February 1684 in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut.1 She was the daughter of Nathaniel Holcomb and Mary Bliss. Hester married Brewster Higley on 17 February 1708/9 in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut.2 Brewster and Esther had children: Brewster [12/12/1709-3/24/1794] [m. 3/03/1735 Esther Holcomb], David [1712-1790] [m. 1735 Annah Owen], Joseph [10/21/1715-5/__/1790] [m. Ruth Holcomb & 2nd. Eunice Smith], Hannah [12/07/1717-1/25/1806] [m. 1735 Elijah Owen & 2nd. Pelatiah Mills], Esther [12/03/1719-9/15/1807] [m. 1740 Josiah Case], Josiah [2/17/1722-5/23/1802] [m. 1745 Apphia Humphrey & 2nd. 1764 Ann Clark] & Elizabeth [1723-7/26/1774] [m. Gideon Mills]. Hester's husband, Brewster, died on 5 November 1760 in Simsbury leaving her a widow. Hester departed this life on Sunday, 17 December 1775 in Simsbury at age 91 years and 10 months. She was buried at Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut, in Simsbury Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: in Memory of Mrs Esther the relict of Mr Brewster Higley who died Decbr the 17th 1775 Aged 91.3
