Richard Greene

M, b. circa 1585, d. before 23 June 1617
     Richard was born circa 1585 in Gillingham Parish, Dorchestershire, England, at the family estate at Bowridge Hall. He was the son of Richard Greene and Mary Hooker. Richard married Agnes (?). Richard made his will on 20 April 1614.

In the name of God Amen: I Richarde Greene of the Close of the Cannons of the Cathedxall Churche of Sarum. in the County of Wiltes Gentleman considerynge with myself the frailtie of man's life etc. make and ordaine this my last will and testament as follweth : First. I give and bequeathe unto to my deare and loving father Richard Greene in token of my filial love and duty one double sovereigne of govilde, my Seale ring of goulde and my best Gowne. Item: I give unto my good and most lovinge mother in like acknowledgment of my bounded dutye to her one double sovereigne of goulde my gywell goulde Ringe and my guylte Bible. Item: Unto my most loving and beloved wife Agnes Greene my Lease and terme of right &c in Tenement with appurtenances in the Close of New Sarum where I now dwell. Item: I will that sayd wief shall hotdde and enjoye the Tenement in Gillingham County of Dorsett called Gyms which I lately purchased of my father, for the terme of ten years after my death if Anne Capps of Lodburne in Gillingham aforesaid -widow shall soe long have — and no longer nor otherwise. [In default of issue said Tenement bequeathed to Robert Greene his brother, and in default of his issue, to John Greene his brother. Mentions lands in Gillingham conveyed to him by his father, who "reserved to himself only an estate for terme of his natural life etc. — the moneys "yssuinge out of the sayd Tenement" to provide "an annuity of Five pounds apeece" to his brothers Robert and John, and Ten pounds to his sister Anne Greene.] Item: To my brother Peter one suite of my best apparell. Item: To my brothers Robert and John all my Latin books to be divided between them. Item: To my sister Rebecca Downton one Angell of goulde and to cache of my sisters Mary, Rachell and Anne and to Sister-in-Lawe Johane Greene to cache an englishe Crowne in goulde. And to cache one handkerchief apeece of the better sorte which I have. Item: I give and bequeathe all the rest of my goods & chattells unto my lovinge wief Agnes Greene. . . Lastly I appoynte my lovinge Father Richard Greene, my sayd brother John Greene and my sayd lovinge wief Agnes Greene to be executors &c. . . . In witness of which &c, I have subscribed my- name and sett to my seale the eighte and twentieth day of Aprell in the yeare of our Lorde God one thousand six hundred and fowertene. . . .Richard Greene. Richard departed this life in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. His will was probated on 23 June 1617.
