Richard de Grey

Richard de was born in Derbyshire, England, at Codnor Castle. He was the son of Henry de Grey and Isolda Bardolf. Richard was a special favorite of King John, during the last years of his reign. His allegiance to the Crown continued with the new King and he was well rewarded for his service and his loyalty. To the point that it was noted that it was rare for a nobleman of his rank and age to have received such rewards. In 1238 Richard founded the Carmelite friary in Aylesford with friars be brought back with him on his return from the Holy Land.1 Richard departed this life in 1255 in Derbyshire, England, at Codnor Castle.
