Sarah Fowler1

F, b. circa 1667
Sarah was born circa 1667 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Henry Fowler III and Rebecca Newell. Sarah married Samuel Goodwin circa 1682 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York. He was 1st married to Sarah, daughter of Henry & Lydia [Frost] Gray. It is not known if Samuel & Sarah had any children. Mary [m. after 1698 Christopher Sturges] is the daughter of Samuel's first wife. It is possible that John & Abigail [m. 1710 Thomas Disbrow] are the children of Samuel's 2nd wife, Sarah Fowler. Unfortunately, it is not positively known whether the mother of these two children was Miss Gray or Sarah Fowler.2 Sarah's husband, Samuel, died before 1690 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York, leaving her a widow. Sarah married 2nd Edward Hancock before 1690 in Westchester County, New York. In 1690, there is a land transaction listed in the Eastchester records between Edward Hancock & his step son, John Godin [Goodwin]. On 9 November 1695, Edward's step son, John Goodwin, sells him a horse.3 Edward & Sarah had children: Susanna [m. John Sydenham] & possibly Elias.4 1698, Edward and his wife Sarah were listed on the Eastchester Town Census. Enumerated in this household were Edward Hancok, Sarah Hancok, Elias Hancok, Susana Hancok, John Godin, Mary Godin & Abigail Godin.5,6

  2. [S506] Note: It is not known exactly when Samuel's 1st wife died & he married Sarah Fowler. It is also not known exactly when Sarah Fowler was born. The name of the mother of John, Mary & Abigail is also uncertain but most probably Miss Gray. It is known that these children were living in the home of Sarah Fowler & her husband, Edward Hancock on the 1698 Eastchester Town census - none of whom were married at the time. Some documents seem to indicate Sarah Fowler to be the mother of John.
