James was born circa 1718 in Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York, at "The Homestead". He was the son of James Ferris and Anne Sands. James married Charity Thomas on 19 September 1753 in Westchester.3 James & Charity had children: Anne [11/17/1755] [m. Honoraable Philip Pell], Margaret "Peggy" [1754-<1780, not in father's will], Thomas [9/02/1757-6/18/1831] [m. Mary Ann Banks], Abigail [11/--/1759-5/23/1838] [m. Captain David Harrison],James [6/14/1762-3/04/1832] [m. Sarah Oakley], Mercy [3/09/1764], William Cornell [4/24/1766-<1780 not in father's will], Edward [2/19/1768-1/08/1820], Charles [12/16/1769-< 1780 not in father's will], David [8/08/1771-1842] & George [1775-3/11/1841] [m. Catherine Ann Post]. On 14 April 1747, James & his family resided on property inherited from his father at Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York. James made his will on 4 February 1780 at Throgs Neck.
