Robert was born on Thursday, 21 September 1684 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of Captain John Coe and Mary Hawley. Robert married Barbara Parmelee on 21 December 1708 in Connecticut. Robert made his will on 21 February 1761 at Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut.
He directs his son-in-law, John Wilcox, to support for life Barbara Coe, his wife. He mentions his eldest sons , Jonathan & Jedediah and daughter, Mary of East Guilford. He also mentions his sons: William, Ebenezer, Thomas & Reuben, and daughters: Martha & Hannah. He made his son, Jonathan, son-in-law, Thomas Hart & Captain Joseph Curtis of Durham.
Robert departed this life on Tuesday, 2 February 1762 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut. His will was probated on 20 February 1762.
