Katherine Chapin

     Katherine was born before 1626 in the parish of Berry Palmeroy, Devonshire, England. She was christened there in 1626 in St. Mary's Church.¹ She was the daughter of Deacon Samuel Chapin and Cecily Penny. On 6 April 1630, her grandfather, Henry Penny, left her 12 pence in his will. Katherine married Nathaniel Bliss, son of Thomas Bliss and Margaret Hulins, on the 20th day of the 9th month 1646 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.^2,3 Katherine's husband, Nathaniel, died before 18 November 1654 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow.^4,5 Katherine married 2nd Thomas Gilbert on 31 July 1655 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.⁶ Thomas & Catherine had 4 children: Sarah [2/19/1656-2/04/1712][m. 8/09/1676 Samuel Field], John [10/18/1657-1709][m. Hannah Blakeman & 2nd. 7/__/1695 Hannah Canfield], Thomas [3/15/1659-5/13/1698][m. Abilene Marshfield & 2nd. 4/09/1690 Anna Bancroft], & Henry [3/01/1661-8/17/1740][m. 1/31/1683 Elizabeth Belding & 2nd. 12/24/1735 Mary Wheat].⁷ Katherine's husband, Thomas, died on 5 June 1662 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow.⁶ Katherine married 3rd Samuel Marshfield on 28 December 1664 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He was married first 13 February 1651 to Hester Wright.⁶ Samuel & Katherine had children: Josiah [9/29/1665-1712][m. 9/22/1686 Rachel Gilbert], Hester [9/06/1667-1/20/1714][m. 3/26/1685 Ephraim Colton], child [11/17/1669-11/17/1669] & Margaret [12/03/1670-6/12/1758][m. 4/10/1690 Ebenezer Parsons].⁷ Katherine's husband, Samuel, died on 8 May 1692 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow. Katherine departed this life on Thursday, 4 February 1712 in Springfield.⁸
