Joseph was born in Shalbourne, Berkshire, England. He was christened there on 6 April 1634 in St Michael's & All Angel's Church.2 He was the son of William Carpenter and Abigail Briant. Joseph married Margaret Sutton on 25 November 1655 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Joseph made his will on 3 May 1675 at Swansea Township, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Joseph departed this life before 6 May 1675 in Swansea Township. He was buried there on Monday, 6 May 1675. The inventory of Joseph's estate was taken on Saturday, 21 March 1676. On this date, the widow, Margaret, submitted the inventory of Joseph's estate.
