Catherine Bonhomme

     Catherine was born on Tuesday, 21 September 1655 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada. She was christened there on 22 September 1655 in the Basilica of Notre Dame.¹ She was the daughter of Nicolas Bonhomme and Catherine Gouget. A contract for the marriage of Catherine & Jacques Bartheaume was signed on 5 November 1667. The contract, written by notary Romain Becquet, states that his parents were Pierre Bertheaume & Jacqueline Brion, and that he was born at St-Benin, Bayeux. Her parents were Nicholas Bonhomme & Catherine Gouget, and they were living at the village of St-Francis in the parish of Quebec..² Jacques & Catherine had children: Marie-Agnes [2/02/1671][m. 4/18/1712 Rene Bertault], Pierre [8/03/1673-2/22/1715][m. 11/10/1699 Catherine Fauteux], Joseph [9/26/1675], Noel [12/30/1677-1/27/1736][m. 1/15/1704 Marie Francoise Girard], Catherine [1679][m. 10/23/1702 Jean-Baptiste Belleau dit Larose], Joseph-Francois [11/28/1689-1/08/1709], Marie-Madeleine [1690-12/27/1755][m. 11/24/1711 Charle Daunias & 2nd 11/27/1721 Pierre-Francois Robitaille] & Marie-Anne [1696-1/28/1703].³ 1681, Catherine and her husband, Jacques, were listed on the Canadian Census in Sillery, ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Jacques Bertheaume [39 years], Catherine Bonhomme [26 years], Marie [10 years], Pierre [7 years], Joseph [6 years], Jacques [4 years] & Catherine [2 years].⁴ Catherine departed this life on Friday, 3 July 1711 in Ste-Foy, ville de Quebec at age 55 years, 9 months and 12 days. She was buried there in the churchyard of Notre Dame de la Foy Church on Saturday, 4 July 1711.⁵
