Francoise Benard

     Francoise was born circa 1637 in Vouvray-sur-Loir, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France. She was the daughter of Pierre Benard & Catherine Riverin. In 1655, Francoise immigrated from France to Montreal as a "Fille-a-Marier:..1 A contract for the marriage of Marin Janot dit Lachapelle & Francoise Benard was signed on 1 May 1655 at ville de Quebec. It was drawn up by notary Saint-Pere. Francoise married Marin Janot dit Lachapelle on 30 August 1655 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.2,3 Francoise's husband, Marin, drowned on 20 July 1664 in Montreal at age 37 years, leaving her a widow. Francoise married Guillaume Bouchard on 20 July 1665 in Montreal at the Basilica of Notre Dame.4 1667, Francoise and her husband, Guillaume, were listed on the Canadian Census in Notre Dame de Montreal. Enumerated in this household were Guillaume Bouchard [35 years], Francoise Benard [39 years], Cecile Janot [11 years], Francoise Janot [9 years], Pierre Janot [7 years], Robert Janot [5 years] & Marie Bouchard [1 month].5 1681, Francoise and her husband, Guillaume, were listed on the Canadian Census in Notre Dame de Montreal. Enumerated in this household were Guilluame Bouchard [45 years], Francoise Besnard [52 years], Pierre Janot [21 years], Robert [19 years] & Marie Bouchard [14 years].6 Francoise's husband, Guillaume, died between 18 November 1686 and 6 February 1707 in Montreal leaving her a widow. Francoise departed this life circa 6 February 1707 in Montreal. She was buried there in the cemetery of Notre Dame on Sunday, 6 February 1707.7
