Richard was born between 1612 and 1622 in Somersetshire, England. He was the son of John Willett II and Elizabeth Buver. On 16 November 1644, Richard was the 22nd name on the list of original propriietorsvof Hempstead. Richard married Mary Washbourne, daughter of William Washbourne and Jane Whitehead, circa 1649 in the Town of Hempstead, Queens County, Long Island, New York. Richard departed this life on Saturday, 2 May 1665 in Jericho in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Long Island, New York. A few years later, his widow, Mary moved to Jericho, became a Friend and raised her children in the faith.5
