Hope Washbourne

M, b. circa 1639
     Hope was born circa 1639. He was the son of William Washbourne and Jane Whitehead. Hope was not yet married when his father wrote his will on 29 September 1657. Hope had children: Sarah [12/__/1661] [m. 10/30/1691 Isaac Arnold], Mary [m. 9/24/1694 John Johnson] John [5/__1666], William [3/16/1669], Samuel 3/15/1671] & Ephraim [8/01/1673].1

The will of Hope Washburn – Know all men by these presents that we whose names are underwritten mary sometime wife of ye realect of hope washban Deceased will Washban & Samuel Wasban mary wahban & Jane washban the children of the above sd hope washban: Divers good Condsiderations us ther moving are mutually agreed to devid the estate in Lands of the sd hope washban as foloweth imprimism that William washban ye Eldest son of the above sd hope washban have & hold the house that sd hope washban Died in & the home Lot & all the Land in the field above the sd hill. Item that Samuel Wasban have & hold the house & homestead that was formerly John Grivens & all the lands belonging to that house that was ye sd John Grivefins. Iten that ye Land below the hill with all the Rest of ye Land that ye sd hope Washban Died possessed of & what Division Lands shall come to be equally Devided between the said William washban & Samuel washban all ways provided the same William washban being the eldest son have his first choyce. Item that mary wasban the Relecte of the sd hope washban During her widowhood has her Libetty to Dwell in which house she pleases ether yt her husband died in or yt which was John Grivins & to have one third part of ye Land if she see caus During her widowhood. Item that what Debts where Contracted in ye Life of the said hop Washban & are yet unpaid be Equally Discharged – by the sd William washban & Samuel washban ye one to pay ye one equall halfe & the other ye other equall halfe.
Item the Rest of the individual estate that was the sd hop wahsbans to be Left & Remaine to the disposal of the sd mary washban ye Relecte of ye above sd hope washban: Jane washban being under the age has chosen before the witness below written her mother mary washban to be her gordion: dated the sixteenth of November one thousand six hundred ninety & six the Eight yeare of our sufereigne Lord King William.
The will was signed by Mary Washban [relect], William and Samuel Washban, Sarah Washban and John Johnson. Witnesses: John Davies, Isaack Nicols and Ebenezer Johnson.
