Catharine Louisa was born on Wednesday, 24 January 1838 in Waterford Township, Oakland County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Beekman Van Zandt. Catharine Louisa married Robert Carpenter Beardslee, son of John Wheeler Beardslee and Elizabeth Ann Carpenter, on 24 June 1869 in Waterford Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Robert Beardslee, 33, of San Francisco, b. Independence, farmer to Catherine Van Zandt, 30, born & of Waterford. Robert & Louise had children: Frances "Fanny" [1/09/1874-6/22/1953][m. 6/09/1903 Frank Bottomley] & Egbert V. [8/23/1876]. 8 August 1870, Catharine and her husband, Robert, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Independence Township. Enumerated in this household were Robert Beardsley [35 Michigan], & his wife: Louisa [33 Michigan].2 5 June 1880, Catharine and her husband, Robert, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Brandon Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Robert Beardslee [45 Michigan], his wife: Loisa C. [42 Michigan], children: Francis E.[female][6 Michigan] & Edward V. [3 Michigan].3 Catharine departed this life on Saturday, 4 June 1887 in Independence Township at age 49 years, 4 months and 11 days.
Obituary - Louisa, wife of Robert Beardslee of Independence, died last Saturday pf Inflammation of the lungs. During the heavy wind and rain storm of Monday the 23, the family took refuse in the cellar, where she contracted a cold, and was taken with a chill, and went to right to bed, from which she was never able to raise. The friends were all present, the oldest sister and mother coming from Saratoga, another sister from Indianapolis. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Baptist church in Waterford, the remains buried in Waterford in the Drayton Cemetery. She leaves a husband and two children aged eleven and thirteen years old and many friends who will morn her untimely loss.
She was buried there in the Drayton Plains Cemetery on Tuesday, 7 June 1887. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Catherine Van Zandt wife of Robert Beardsley Jan. 24, 1838 - June 4, 1887.
