Maria Vredenburg

F, b. 9 May 1739, d. 16 April 1824
     Maria was born on Saturday, 9 May 1739 in the City, County & State of New York. She was the daughter of Johannes Vredenburg and Jannetje Woodard. On 16 May 1739, she was christened at the New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church in the City, County & State of New York. Her sponsors were Johannes Wyk & his wife, Catharina Dou.1 She was often referred to as Mary. Maria married Johannes Gysbertszen Uyt ten Bogaert, son of Gysbert Dirckszen Uyt ten Bogaert and Catharina Paalding, on 6 March 1757 at the New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church in the City, County & State of New York.2 John & Mary resided at Tappan Bay during the Revolution. Their home was destroyed by fire by the British. They had eight children of which Katharine [wife of Augustus Wright] was the sixth child. In later years, Mary lost her eyesight. Her children would prepare squares of cloth with threaded needles for her to work on during the day. Maria departed this life on Friday, 16 April 1824 in New York.3
