John Topping

     John was born in 1636 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Thomas Topping and Emma Aldridge. He was first married to Sarah White, daughter of John White and Anne Cooper. They had a daughter, Sarah who married Josiah Halsey. John married 2nd Deborah Lockwood, daughter of Robert Lockwood and Susannah Norman, in 1676. John departed this life on Thursday, 16 May 1686 in Sagaqponack, Suffolk County, New York. He was buried there in Sagg Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here Lyes the Body of John Topping Justice of the Peace Agec 50 years who departed this life in the 29th day of May in the year 1686.¹
