Martha Torrey

     Martha was born on Monday, 24 May 1745 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Samuel Torrey and Martha Strickland. Martha married Abijah Savage on 20 August 1765. Abijah & Martha had children: Molly [6/30/1765][m. Samuel Riley], Chloe [2/26/1769][m. William Hulbert], Martha [10/14/1770][m. Nathaniel Bassett], Naomi [5/17/1772][m. Timothy Bigelow], Esther [6/26/1774][m. William Stow], Abijah [11/02/1777], Grace [10/31/1779][m. William White], Caleb [7/07/1781] & Fanny [11/__/1784][m. John Church].¹ Martha departed this life on Thursday, 4 June 1812 in Middletown at age 67 years and 11 days. She was buried in Cromwell, Middlesex County, Connecticut, in the Old Burying Ground. On the same stone as her husband, the inscription reads: Martha Savage wife of Abijah Savage Died June 4, 1812 age 67.
