Mercy was born in 1693 in Block Island, Washington County, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Samuel Sands and Mary Ray. Mercy married Richard Stillwell before 11 December 1713. She was noted as being married in her father's will of this date. Richard & Mercy had children: Richard [1710-1773][m. Mary Bowne, 2nd Lydia Leonard], Mary [1714-1802][m. Captain Thomas Clark], Anne [1714][m. Theodosius Bartow, 2nd Philip Disme], Catherine [m. Reverend Ebenezer Pemberton], Deborah [m. Richard Smith], Elizabeth [m. Peter Wraxall, 2nd General John Maunsell], Samuel [m. Sarah Clayton] & William [m. John Watkins].3 Mercy's husband, Richard, died in 1743, leaving her a widow. Mercy departed this life in 1746.
