David Sammis [Samwayas]1
M, b. 4 October 1681, d. before 18 October 1751
David was born on Saturday, 4 October 1681 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of John Sammis and Abigail Corey. David married Sarah (?) before 1709 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. David's wife, Sarah, died on 27 May 1739 in Huntington leaving him a widower. David made his will on 8 April 1750 at Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
In the Name of God Amen I David Samis of huntington in the County of Suffolk and Colony of New York being of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding but calling to mind the mortality of my Body and that it is appointed for all Men once to die do make ordain constitute and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following [that is to say] first of all I commit my precious soul to God that gave it and my Body to the Earth to be buried in a descent manner and touching such worldly estate as God in his province hath bestowed upon me I devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form Imprimis I will and order that my son David Samis shall pay all my due debts and pay Sixteen pounds currant money of New York to my Daughters to be equally divided among them. Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved son David Samis his heirs and Assigns forever my dwelling house and Land adjoining and my Barn and Land and medow on that side of the high way and all my Lands in Gredwell plain and all my Meadow on the south side of Nassau Island except what I may hereafter sell and my great Bible and fire lock musket with all their appurtenances reserving nevertheless the upper an lower western rooms in my dwelling house for any of my daughters that shall remain single to dwell in with the use oof the Garden and Liberty of putting things in the cellar as their Occasions shall require and my son David Samis shall keep a cow winter and summer for my daughters. Item I will and order that all my Lands and Rights in the eastern purchase with all my moveable estate [Except the Bible and firelock beforesaid] shall be old by my Executors hereafter named and be equally divided between my Daughters and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other statement by me at any other time made and ordained ratifying and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament. Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint Joseph Whitman and Jeremiah Woodboth of Huntington in the count and Colony abovesaid Executors of this my last Will and Testament to execute fulfill and perform the same according to the true intent and meaning thereof And I do hereby give and grant to my said Executors full power and authority to grant sell convey and confirm the land and right before mentioned at the eastern purchases and that the conveyance or conveyances under the hands and seals of my said executors being lawfully executed shall make the Buyer or Buyers purchaser or purchasers of the same as Good sure and lawful title of inheritance in fee simple as I was now to sell and convey amiable and have authority to do. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this eighth day of April in the year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ one thousand seven hundred and Fifty.2
David departed this life in Huntington. He was buried there in the Old Burying Hill Cemetery.3 His will was probated on 18 October 1751.
