Eva Shoffstall

     Eva was born on Thursday, 12 December 1776 in Strausburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Peter IM Shoffstall and Anna Elizabeth Kornman. Eva married David Buffington circa 1802 in Pennsylvania. David and Eva had children: Elisabeth [5/25/1803-1868][m. Andrew Schreck], Hannah [10/11/1808-4/24/1890][m. Jacob Kolva and 2nd. Michael Miller] & Samuel Schoffstall [1/16/1814-8/28/1903][m. Catherine Lutz].¹ Eva's husband, David, died on 11 April 1814 in Lykens Township leaving her a widow. The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Mifflin Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the family of Eva Buffington [101100:00110].² 30 September 1850, the U.S. Federal Census listed Eva living in the home of her daughter. Enumerated in this household were Michael Miller [45 Pennsylvania], Hannah [42 Pennsylvania], Bolsal [20 Pennsylvania], Cyrus [19 Pennsylvania], Michael [14 Pennsylvania], Jacob Colver [19 Pennsylvania], Aaron Miller [4 Pennsylvania], Benjamin Counselm [3 Pennsylvania], Eve Colver [21 Pennsylvania], Leah Miller [8 Pennsylvania], Hannah [5 Pennsylvania], Adam [3 months Pennsylvania] & Eve Buffington [ 74 Pennsylvania]. Michael worked his farm vaued at $3000.³ Eva departed this life on Thursday, 3 February 1853 in Lykens Township at age 76 years, 1 month and 22 days. She was buried there in Lykens Township in St. Peter's Cemetery.⁴
