Simon Ray III1

M, b. before 20 December 1638, d. 17 March 1737
     Simon was born before 20 December 1638 in Cowling, County Suffolk, England.2 He was christened there on 20 December 1638 in St. Andrew's Church.2 He was the son of Simon Ray II and Mary Rowning. On 17 August 1660, Simon, along with Thomas Terry and 14 other men met at Braintree and decided to immigrate to Block Island. Simon as well as pledging a one sixteenth share of expenses, also agreed to build a shallop to transport the families. In April of 1661, the sixteen families moved to Block Island.3 Simon married Mary Thomas, daughter of Nathaniel Thomas, circa 1664 in Massachusetts. Simon's wife, Mary, died, leaving him a widower.4 Simon married 2nd Elizabeth (?) after 27 October 1685 in Block Island. The inventory of Simon's estate was taken and appraised at 3675 pounds. The appraisers were Thomas Dickens and Abel Franklin. Simon departed this life on Sunday, 17 March 1737 in Block Island.4
