Solomon Powell

Solomon was born circa 1703 in Bethpage in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Long Island, New York. Solomon is not of age in his father's will. He was the son of Thomas Powell and Elizabeth Townsend. Solomon married Ruth Carman in 1730 in Queens County, Long Island, New York. Solomon and Ruth had children: Henry, Thomas & Solomon. Solomon made his will on 6 February 1736 at Bethpage in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Long Island, New York.
In the name of God Amen. February ye Sixth Anno Domini 1735/36 – I Solomon Powel being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to God Calling to mind the uncertainty of this life & knowing that all must yield unto death when it shall please God to call us to it I do hereby make Constitute ordain & Declare this to be my Last will and Testament in manner and form following Revoking and Annulling by these presents all and Every Testament and Testaments will and wills heretofore by me made and Declared Either by word or writing & first being sorry for all my sins past Earnestly desiring forgiveness for them – I commit my Soul to Almighty God trusting in the merits of Christ for Salvation; & my body to be buried in s Christian manner, And now for the Settling of any Temporal Estate which God has pleased far beyond my Desserts to bestow upon me I Do order give and Dispose the same in manner and form following, first I will that all those Debts & Duties which I owe in Right to any manner of person or persons whatsoever shall be well and truly Content & paid or ordained to be paid within Convenient time after my decease by my Executors hereafter named – first I order that all my Estate excepting the household goods be sold such as Lands meadows Servant buildings & Stock with all the tackling belonging to farming and after all my debts are truly Satisfied and paid I order that the one Equal third part of what remains shall be given to my well belove wife Ruth powell also I give to my wife all my household goods which were Excepted from being Sold & to continue solong as she Remains my widow but if She marries then I order that all her part of the money Excepting fifty pounds & the household goods which is to be hers Dureing Life be Returned to the Children - - Secondly I order & give to the Remaining two thirds to my three beloved Sons Steven Thomas & Solomon that is after the debts are all paid to be Equally divided between them three & also I order that which falls to them from m wife’s part when she marries as is above specified to be Equally Divided between them & if Either of any of these my sons should Dye under age I would have his part Equally divided between the other two all which to be and Remain to their heirs and assigns for ever & further I order that Henry Willis Jacob Simmons & Garn Van Wicke be the Executors for the overseeing & managing for the good of the children the money I would have paid out to use & as to the maintenance of the Children & journeying them out to trade I Leave it wholly to the Discretion of the said Executors & for the Confirmation of these presents I have hereunto Sett my hand and affixed my seal the day and year above written - - - Signed Sealed and Confirmed in the presents of us Thomas Conklin John Counenover Laphar Ilat.1
