Christian Peak

     Christian was born before 15 February 1583 in Muoheny, Somersetshire, England. On 15 February 1583, she was christened in Muoheny, Somersetshire, England.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Peak. Christian married William Arnold, son of Nicholas Arnold and Alice Gully, circa 1610 in Somersetshire, England. On arriving in Massachusetts, William joined a group of immigrants from Hingham, county Norfolk, who were preparing to establish a new settlement, and name it Hingham from thier old home. The following year, Roger Williams in his move to Providence came to Hingham and persuaded some of the settlers there to go with him. William was one of them that chose to go with Williams. In so doing, William became one of the of the original thirteen proprietors of Providence. He was the second to sign, Stukeley Wescott was the first to sign. William, however, in about two years, left Providence with his family and associates, including his son-in-law William Carpenter and newphew, Thomas Hopkins, and moved about four miles away along the Pawtuxet River near the settlement of Warwick. Here he spent the rest of his life, still though, maintaining ties with the colony at Providence. The stongest tie, perhaps, being involved in the establishment of the First Baptist Church in Providence, the first in this country, along with Roger Williams and others of the early settlers that came in the William's party. Christian departed this life in 1659/60 in Pawtuxet, Providence County, Rhode Island.
