John was born on Thursday, 9 March 1701/2 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of John Beardsley and Abigail Wakelee. John married Keziah Wheeler, daughter of Joseph Wheeler and Patience Holbrook, on 29 December 1725 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. The family first resided in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. In 1724, he received from his father 36 acres of land on the Lower White Hills "for parental love". About 1726, they removed to Ripton. No certain date can be given for the arrival of the first settlers within the limits of Hardyston. Several cabins were built on the site of the Village of Hamburg near 1740. John and Keziah were either one of these first settlers or immigrared soon after. His property was on the Mill Brook road which led into Franklin Corners.
