Stephen Atwood1

M, b. circa 1616, d. 21 December 1694
     Stephen was born circa 1616 in London, County Middlesex, England, at their home on Chancery Lane. He was the son of Johannes Atwood and Joan Coleson. He & his brothers, John & Henry, came to Plymouth in 1635 with their Uncle John Atwood. Stephen married Abigail Dunham, daughter of John Dunham and Abigail Barlow, on 6 November 1644 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.2 Stephen was granted "a garden place in a neighood at Wellingsley" 31 December 1641; he was granted 8 acres of upland at Loute Pond 16 September 1641; in August 1643, he was one of those Plymouth townmen fit to bear arms. He was propounded a freeman 1 June 1647, and took the oath of fidelity in Plymouth in 1657. He was appointed suveyor of highways in Eastham 6 June 1654. Stephen departed this life on Tuesday, 21 December 1694 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
