- [S1257] Elijah Francis Atwood, Ye Atte Wode Annuals, Part 1, page 3 - We find nothing of the next John until his death in 1525, leaving a will made just before his death. I hardly think you will find any will in existence that show so queer a thing, for he had four sons named John. However the will of his wife, Denes, made five years later, shows that one John called Hewson and she names a Richard not in the other will.
John the Elder evidently had estate and inherited quite a flock of sheep at Woodmanstone, where we find the will of a John Atwood several years later, (1529) with some five children not named. (Peter 1346 bought land, Woodmanstone.) Henry got Wadden manor, in Croyden Parish. John Hewson got Sanderstead Manor. John (Richard) seems to have had only personal property.
