The 1790 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at the Town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York, the family of Selah Mapes [11:3].2 Selah departed this life on Wednesday, 8 March 1837 in Mount Hope Town, Orange County, New York. He was buried in the cemetery of the "Congregational Church at Wallkill and Deerpark Patent", later changed to the "Congregational Church of Mount Hope" (commonly known as the Yellow Church, near Mount Hope, Orange Co., N. Y.

On Apr. 20, 1787 he married Dinah Riley who was born Dec. 3, 1765 and died July 11, 1835. They were buried in the cemetery of the "Congregational Church at Wallkill and Deerpark Patent", later changed to the "Congregational Church of Mount Hope" (commonly known as the Yellow Church, near Mount Hope, Orange Co., N.
