John Sayles Dykeman

John Sayles was born on Friday, 22 May 1840 in New York. John married Caroline S. Ridgely, daughter of Westall Ridgely and Susannah Winbegler, on 18 March 1860 in Van Buren County, Michigan.1 17 July 1860, John and his wife, Caroline, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Marcellus Township, Cass County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were J. S. Dykeman [20 New York] & his wife: C. S. [21 Ohio].2 John and Caroline had a son, Ziba E. [1862-1936][m. Alvina M. Beaman]. John's wife, Caroline, died on 10 April 1881 in Atchison County, Kansas, leaving him a widower. John departed this life on Saturday, 8 June 1918 in Whiting Township, Jackson County, Kansas, at age 78 years and 17 days. He was buried there in Spring Hill Cemetery.3
