Marie du Coudre

     Marie was born circa 1643. She was the daughter of Nicolas du Coudray & Marie Largue. In the spring of 1670, Marie left her home in France aboard the ship, "La Nouvelle France", some departing from Dieppe & others from La Rochelle before crossing the ocean for Quebec. She was one of 120 young women who were "Filles du Roi". They arrived at Quebec on the 31st of July. She brought with her a dowry of 450 livres with 400 livres coming from the King..1 On 25 August 1670, she signed a marriage contract with Jean Jouanne. This contract was cancelled; she then signed another contract on 28 August 1670 with Robert Gallen. This contract was also cancelled. Then on 29 August 1670, Marie signed a third contract; this one with Francois Grenet. The notary for all three contracts was Romain Becquet.2 A contract for the marriage of Marie & Francois Grenette was signed on 29 August 1670. It was drawn up by notary, Romain Becquet.. Marie married Francois Grenette on 15 September 1670 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.3 1681, Marie and her husband, Francois, were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Levis, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Francois Grenet [38 years], Marie du Coudre [38 years], Perrine [9 years], Jean [8 years], Baptiste [4 years] & Andre [2 years]. They had 3 arpents of land.4,5
