     Richard was born in 1612 in Butcombe, Somersetshire, England. Richard married Mary Washbourne, daughter of William Washbourne and Jane Whitehead, circa 1649 in the Town of Hempstead, Queens County, Long Island, New York. He and Mary were blessed with 6 children. They resided in Lucum which bevame known as Jericho. Richard departed this life in 1664 in Jericho in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County, Long Island, New York.

He was the American pioneer of his line and that he had come from England not long before the 1640-44 period when he was about 22 years of age.. . . he died before 2 May 1665 aftter hiswidow removed to Jericho [Lush[am] where she joined the Friends Church. No uniformitty in spelling of the name. Children: Thomas [May 1650], Hope [September 1652], John [July 1655], Richard [December 1660], Mary [April 1663][m. 7tt[h day 6th month 1687 John Fry].
