     John was born on Saturday, 16 April 1796 in Cornwall, Orange County, New York. He was the son of Daniel Thorn & Mary Wendell. They went to Horseheads about 1816. John married Ann Carpenter, daughter of Townsend Carpenter and Elizabeth Truesdell, on 11 September 1823 in Elmira Township, Tioga County, New York. At the home of Ann's parents. After their marriage, they resided at Horseheads, Chemung Co., New York on a farm, three miles east of the village. 3 September 1850, John and his wife, Ann, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were John Thorne [46 New York], his wife: Ann [46 New York], Daniel [10 New York], Townsend [6 New York], Ellen [1/12 New York], Fanny [20 New York], Henry [19 New York], Letetia [16 New York], Ann [13 New York], & Sarah [9 New York].2 8 August 1860, John and his wife, Ann, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were John Thorn [63 New York], his wife: Ann [56 New York], children: Ann [23 New York], Daniel [20 New York], Townsend [16 New York], & Ellen [10 New York].3 10 August 1870, John was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were John Thorne [74 Ndw York], son: Daniel [30 New York], Daniel's wife: Margaret [30 New York], & Effie [1 New York]. John is a retired farmer. He is living next door to son Henry.4 John departed this life on Monday, 24 June 1872 in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. He was buried at Horseheads, Chemung County, New York, in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
