Enumerated in this household were Jacob Smith [60 Germany, Germany & Germany - May 1840], his wife: Barbara [49 Germany, Germany & Germany - December 1850], children: Hammond M. [21 Ohio - February 1879], Charles J. [16 Ohio - June 1883], & lodgers, Elmer L. Joseph [22 Michigan - November 1877] & Lottie [19 Ohio]. They were married for 26 years with 4 children, all living. Jacob was a tinner.3 15 April 1910, Jacob and his wife, Barbara, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Seneca County. Enumerated in this household were Jacob Smith [70 Germany], his wife: Barbara [59 Germany], Barbara's first marriage with 4 children, 3 living & Jacob's second marriage.4 Jacob departed this life on Monday, 8 January 1917 in Tiffin at his home at 31 Rebecca St. at age 76 years, 7 months and 19 days. The cause of death was broncial pneumonia conrtributed by vascular heart disease.5 He was buried there in the Green Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, 10 January 1917.
